Leading oil manufacturer Castrol claims it has launched its biggest ever UK promotion, offering consumers the opportunity to win tickets to some of the largest sporting events of the year.
Launching in store this month (March 2012), the promotion will run until September 2012 across promotional packs available in grocery and DIY stores as well as motoring outlets, garages and petrol forecourts.
Leveraging Castrol’s wide range of sporting sponsorship partnerships, consumers will have the opportunity to win exclusive tickets and prize packages to prestigious 2012 sporting events including the Olympic Games London 2012, UEFA EURO 2012, MOTOGP at Silverstone, ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, the WRC GB Rallyin Wales and the Honda British Superbike Motorcycle Championship.
Over 80 prizes will be awarded each week of the promotion, and range from standalone event tickets to travel, accommodation and ticket packages worth up to £5,000 – plus Euro 2012 and Olympics merchandise. According to Castrol, the campaign is the first time its portfolio of sporting assets has been brought together under one promotional mechanic.
The on-pack promotion will appear across two million Castrol oil packs including the Castrol EDGE, Magnatec and GTX products. Promotional packs feature a competition entry code under a ‘peel back’ label, which can be entered online at the promotional website www.winwith.castrol.com to reveal if it is a winning pack.
Visitors to the website can also play interactive sport-themed games including ‘Shoot to win’ and ‘Triple Jump Champion’, where a free prize draw mechanic will also offer the opportunity to win sports merchandise. The site will also feature a link to Castrol’s unique ‘oil selector’ which allows consumers to identify the right oil for their make and model of car.
The promotion will be supported by dedicated POS and Castrol has also invested in radio at key drive times which will air over the key Easter, May and June bank holiday trading periods to engage with car drivers.
Research has revealed only 43% of drivers in the UK topped up their engine oil last year. The campaign will also carry messaging around the importance of topping up and choosing the right oil for a car’s engine.
Parmy Fellows, UK retail marketing manager, Castrol, said: “2012 is set to be a sporting year to remember, with a whole host of major events taking place over the next few months. Castrol is well-known as a supporter of both motorsport and as well as non-motoring sporting events, making this year a hugely important year for the brand. The Mega Ticket Giveaway offers Castrol the unique opportunity to celebrate all of its sporting assets and reward our customers with some fantastic money-can’t-buy experiences, whilst still raising awareness amongst motorists about the importance of topping up their engine with the right oil.”
Promotional packs are available in store now, and the competition runs until 30 September 2012.
