News eBay has seen a 25% increase in the number of million pound businesses trading on its site and 98% of them are boosting sales through exports highlights the online opportunity for SMEs, according to e-commerce platform provider, ChannelAdvisor.

Julia Priddle, head of key account management, said: “We have seen a similar trend emerging with our customers in the last 12 months. eBay has blurred the lines of regionality by making it easy for retailers of all sizes to operate on an international level, and with an audience of millions of buyers worldwide shopping on eBay we are seeing more SMES emerging as global retailers.

“With low barriers to entry, minimal upfront investment and therefore lower risk, it is becoming easier for retailers to test out new markets. We have seen a dramatic number of our retailers shipping to France and Germany in the past 12 months and in the apparel industry retailers are now increasingly tapping into the Australian market. These retailers are benefiting from an extended season and a premium price for in-demand UK labels. Overall, eBay is truly making the global market a possibility for all retailers.”
