Hudl 2 tablet: new design launching this month

Chauhan Studio is pleased to announce its exciting collaboration with Tesco on the design of the new Hudl2 tablet. The London-based industrial design studio worked closely on this project with Keith Metcalfe, the head of hardware product development at Tesco, and the rest of the Hudl team. The project was conceived by Tesco to deliver a truly holistic user experience, encompassing industrial design, an intuitive software experience and great, easy-to-use services – for a broad audience.

The new tablet features 8.3in full HD display, an Intel Quad Core processor and Dolby sound, boasting one of the highest specs in its class whilst representing excellent value, retailing at £129 or £65 for Clubcard customers, the company claims. The goal of the project was to create a tablet that embodies the Hudl brand value of “accessible technology that makes customers happy”, and to simultaneously develop a coherent design language for Hudl devices and accessories, said Chauhan.

“We wanted to create a beautiful object that conveyed confidence and communicated the Hudl2’s technical acumen, whilst being friendly and accessible for a broad audience. Our goal was to create an object that people will want to pick up,” said Tej Chauhan, creativedirector of Chauhan Studio.

Much focus was put into surface finishes, colours and materials. The arrangement of the display, camera and speaker details form a simple, strong pattern – creating an arresting and easily recognisable visual identity. The wide range of colour options include black, white, red, blue, orange, pink, purple and turquoise.

Metcalfe said: “Working with Chauhan Studio on Hudl2 has been an absolute pleasure and we could not have asked for a more productive partnership. Chauhan Studio always took time to listen to us in order to understand what the Hudl brand stands for. They then came back with ideas and concepts turning that understanding into product designs that we knew our customers would be excited about.”

Chauhan Studio is an award winning practice specialising in product design and working across a diverse set of disciplines, from technology to eyewear. ITsinternational client list ranges from blue chip brands to high-end niche manufacturers including among others Blackberry, Samsung, Panasonic, Habitat and Joseph Joseph.

Last year Chauhan Studio collaborated with leading international brand Fiskars for Wallpaper Handmade 2013. The Hudl2 will be in stores from October 2014.
