Chicago Town launches self-serve pizza to go in convenience

A new self-serve hot pizza to go solution from the nation’s most loved frozen pizza brand Chicago Town has just been launched into convenience. Following successful trials with leading multi-site operators including regional Spar group, James Hall, the self-serve FTG concept is now available to the wider convenience and forecourt marketplace.

Richard Cooper, senior brand manager, Dr Oetker explains: “Food to go continues to grow and is set to reach £22.8bn by 2023. Most operators are experiencing double digit sales growth year on year from food to go and now our self-serve pizza to go concept can help them take it to the next level.”

He continues: “Consumers want to be able to grab and go in store and so self-serve offerings are extremely important right now.  Our new solution is helping retailers like SPAR bring in new shoppers as well as retaining existing shoppers and increasing their basket spend at the same time.”

Spar, New Chapel Street, in Blackburn, run by store manager Teresa Southworth, has been successfully trialling the self-serve concept for the past few months. Teresa says: “Food to go has come a long way in the past few years. People are always in a hurry at the moment. They want things now to grab and go.”

She continues:Chicago town self-serve pizza to go is doing very well for us at the moment. We are making good money out of it. We’re happy and obviously the customers are happy. We started off with two flavours of pizzas and now we are up to three. We do them in quarter and half slices, as well as full pizzas. The profits from those are really good.”

Self-serve pizza to go is perfect for multi-site convenience operators who have already got hot food to go equipment in store. It’s really quick and easy to start selling and profiting. The team at Chicago Town also work with some great equipment and packaging providers and are able to help provide bespoke solutions too.

Cooper says:Consumers want to see us in the food to go aisle. We bring 10 million pizza lovers that are already buying Chicago Town and on top of this we offer  fantastic branding and highly impactful and extendable point of sale including  shelf edged strips, barkers, meal deals and lots more across different touch points. All this helps to drive sales across the different occasions and day parts. Now we want more and more convenience stores to get a slice of the action too.”
