Click and collect on rise as shoppers seek online and offline experiences, Samsung reports

As demand for hybrid shopping experiences grows, click and collect will become king, according to data from Samsung.

As shoppers adjust to post pandemic life the lines between our online and offline worlds have collided with click and collect, becoming the fastest growing retail trend. Samsung has seen the popularity of its click and collect service through Samsung KX explode by 322% in Q4 2021 – this is only set to grow in the post-pandemic world.

Showing a continuing trend for shoppers to choose the convenience of researching products and purchasing online but a desire to get their hands on a product in person.

The convenience of online shopping is here to stay post-pandemic.

Samsung.com said online sales penetration peaked during lockdown. Unsurprisingly as lockdown eased from January 2021, online sales decreased but have levelled out this summer to sit at a much higher level than pre-pandemic – with online sales penetration sitting around 25.5% (July 2021) compared to 18.9% in July 2019.

Tanya Weller, marketing director, direct-to-consumer, Samsung Electronics, said: “This Black Friday sees purchasing habits that have evolved over the past two years really coming to life. As we adjust to the ‘next normal’, we are now seeing the rise of the online/offline shopping experience, with shoppers wanting the best of both worlds. 

“Black Friday normally marks the start of the Christmas purchasing period, however this year we are seeing shoppers snapping up festive gifts earlier than ever – with UK shoppers saying they have picked up 70% of their presents already. 

“Whilst online sales continue to be popular, we are seeing a surge this year in click-and-collect through Samsung KX. Customers want the convenience of researching products and purchasing through online retailers, while retaining control of when they get their products in their hand, in person.
