Co-op opens new stores in Barking Riverside and Chester

The Co-op has opened new community-based stores at Barking Riverside and in Chester.

The new Barking Riverside opened last week in Rivergate Square, Minter Road.

Guests of honour at the launch included representatives from the King George and Queen’s Hospitals charity which received a £2,000 donation to support their work in the community as part of launch day activities.

Opening between 7am-11pm daily the Co-op includes an in-store bakery and Costa coffee express alongside a focus on fresh, heathy produce, award winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, free-from and vegan products, Fairtrade, food-to-go and, everyday essentials.

Ravi Sandaname, store manager, said: “We have had a fantastic response – the store looks great and we are looking forward to serving our community. Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally, and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life. We also want customers to know that they can become a Member of their Co-op, and make a difference every time they swipe their Membership card when buying own branded products.”

The new Chester Co-op opened on Sandy Lane, Saighton following a £480,000 investment and creating up to 18 local jobs.

The purpose-built new convenience store opens between 6am-10pm daily and, runs on 100% renewable electricity.

The store includes an in-store bakery, Costa coffee dispenser, Amazon Lockers and hot food alongside a focus on fresh, heathy produce, award winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, free-from and vegan products, Fairtrade, food-to-go and, everyday essentials. There is car parking for customers.
