Co-operative to restock Easter egg that celebrates real meaning of Easter

The Co-operative Food is stocking the Real Easter Egg for the second year running.

The Real Easter Egg, made by the Meaningful Chocolate Company, is claimed to be the only Easter egg to explain the Christian understanding of Easter on the box. The milk chocolate egg is also Fairtrade certified, and supports charity and development projects.

The egg proved so popular when it was launched last year The Co-operative said it has increased the number of stores stocking it from 50 to 329.

The Bishop of Middleton, the Rt Revd Mark Davies, said: “‘I want to congratulate The Co-operative Food for backing this great idea. There are more than 80m Easter eggs sold in the UK every year and it’s brilliant people now have the choice of buying an egg that celebrates the real meaning of Easter. With its charitable donation, The Real Easter Egg not only tastes good but does good.”

David Marshall, director of the Meaningful Chocolate Company, said: “Prior to the launch of the Real Easter Egg, not one of the 80 million Easter eggs sold every year mentioned the story of Easter. We are pleased The Co-operative is stocking our egg once again, and in such a large number of stores.”

Shaun Walsh, Category Trading Manager at The Co-operative Food, said: “Following the popularity of the Real Easter Egg last year, we are delighted to be stocking it in significantly more stores this year.  Once again, the product will complement our own-brand range of Truly Irresistible chocolate Easter eggs, which are also Fairtrade, as well as the range of branded eggs that we stock, with some cracking deals to ensure that all tastes and pockets are catered for.”

The Real Easter Egg is on sale at selected Co-operative stores nationwide, priced at £3.99.
