The Conran Shop announces the appointment of Hugh Wahla to the position of chief executive officer, Conran Retail & Brand Holdings – the parent company of The Conran Shop.
Wahla was previously managing director of Urban Outfitters Europe. He spent 17 years establishing and growing the business outside of its native USA, helping the brand to become what it is today.
With particular expertise in brand strategy within the retail sector, Hugh’s appointment will now see him responsible for strengthening awareness of The Conran Shop and its evolving offering and overseeing its continued expansion in the UK and internationally. As he joined the business, The Conran Shop was opening its third UK store: a concession within Selfridges. The brand already has two standalone London stores in Chelsea and Marylebone as well as a store in Paris and six franchise stores in Japan.
Wahla ’s track record of driving both on and offline sales means he is also perfectly positioned to take The Conran Shop to the next level, driving a business strategy that will ensure the company continues to pioneer and stays ahead of the curve; discovering, championing, curating and creating great design across multiple product categories.
Jasper Conran, chairman and chief creative director, said: “I am delighted to welcome Hugh Wahla as chief executive to head up the retail, licensing and all related parts of our business. Hugh is well respected in the retail world and has a proven record of building businesses. Our business has undergone significant change during the past few years, and Hugh will be pivotal in implementing the next stage of our strategy.”
Wahla, said: “I’m very pleased to be joining a brand that I have actively appreciated for over 25 years and one that in turn helped shape my appreciation of not just great design across all disciplines but also my understanding of the retail ‘experience’ coupled with accessible aspiration. This is an incredibly exciting time for the business and I’m looking forward to helping shape and deliver a vision for the future.”
