Costa Coffee unveiled as UK’s favourite high street coffee shop in new survey

Costa Coffee has been named the UK’s favourite coffee shop chain.

A new survey commissioned by leading UK coffee machine retailer Coffee Friend has found more than a quarter (27%) of British coffee drinkers think Costa has the best tasting coffee compared to its rivals.

The study found Starbucks was the second most popular chain with 17% of voters choosing the Seattle-based business as their favourite coffee place.

While 14% of caffeine lovers picked Caffe Nero as the chain with the third best coffee.

The surprise packages were McDonald’s (11%) and Greggs (10%) who appeared next in the list, beating Pret A Manger that picked up just 9% of the votes.

For those opting for something else, 12% of people favoured another chain not on the list.

Aurimas Vainauskas, CEO of Coffee Friend, said: “The people of Britain have spoken and Costa Coffee is the nation’s favourite coffee shop chain.

“The results of our survey are to no surprise with Costa having the most shops – more than 2,700 – across the country.

“Though with high street coffee now trendier than ever, there’s more opportunity for new chains to pick up popularity – and this list could look a lot different this time next year.”

The survey of 2,000 adults across the UK was conducted by Coffee Friend in June 2021 with participants asked the question, “which of the below chain coffee shops has the best tasting coffee in the UK?”
