Pennies, the electronic charity box, is celebrating its second anniversary and reports it has grown 100% in the last year and raised over £3m this year.

The scheme is backed by major UK businesses, MP Nick Hurd, ex-BBC broadcaster and CEO of NCVO Martyn Lewis and Peter Ayliffe who is president and CEO of Visa Europe; as well as celebrities such as Robson Green and Fiona Phillips.

Pennies allows people to donate a few pennies when paying by card, so when people are paying £10.99 then pay £11 and the penny goes to charity, for example.

The company has now produced a celebrity-endorsed video to explain the scheme.
