Customers visiting a Central England Co-op store in Erdington will be forgiven for thinking they have stepped back in time as it has been transformed to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
The team at the Marsh Lane Food Store have ensured they will be paying a fitting and patriotic tribute to mark the special anniversary with an impressive display.
The store has been draped with union jack bunting, flags, other touches such as old Co-operative promotional window adverts and displays of traditional products have been added to give shoppers visiting for their food and essentials the feeling of going back in time.
Meanwhile, colleagues will also be marking the VE celebrations by dressing in vintage attire on Saturday, 9 May to add to the atmosphere.
Store manager Dan Goodby said: “We wanted to do something different to mark this special occasion and also boost morale for colleagues.
“We also wanted to mark the VE Day anniversary for the community any way we could, given the current circumstances, and when customers come in to see us hopefully it gives them a little smile.
“The customers who have seen it so far have really liked it and can’t wait to see us all dressed up. It should be a nice day and a small way in which we can pay tribute.”
