Ernest Jones to expand store size at WestQuay centre in Southampton

Hammerson announces that Ernest Jones is to upsize at WestQuay, Southampton’s flagship regional shopping centre. Its new 297sq m (3,200sq ft) store, located on WestQuay’s upper level adjacent to brands such as Steamer Trading and Jack Wills, is due to open in March 2015.

Commenting on the Ernest Jones expansion at WestQuay, Sarah Mander, assistant director, retail leasing, at Hammerson, said: “Ernest Jones’ decision to upsize their store reflects how strong the sector performs at WestQuay.  It is also indicative of the centre’s overall performance, which continues to go from strength-to-strength.  This is generating significant demand from leading brands, both those with experience of WestQuay seeking to upsize, and new entrants.”

Ernest Jones is the latest in a number of brands to upsize at WestQuay or select the store for a new regional flagship. In the last 12 months, Fat Face relocated into a larger store and Jack Wills opened its second full-line non-High Street store, joining Cath Kidston, White Stuff, Superdry, Boux Avenue, Timberland and Pravins. WestQuay’s dining offer has also been enhanced following the arrival of handmade burger Co.

Hammerson has also recently announced that Wahaca, Five Guys, Zizzi Nando’s and Byron are to open in WestQuay Watermark, its mixed-use leisure led development adjacent to WestQuay. Due to be complete in autumn 2016, the development is set to become Southampton’s new city centre leisure hub.
