Family-ran bakery, The Fabulous Bakin’ Boys, is claiming a first with the launch of a baked fruit snack containing one portion of fruit.
Individually wrapped as a 40g portion, Fruit ‘n Oat slices are said to be an ideal addition to lunch boxes and have proven extremely popular with mums and children in trials, achieving a 90% approval rating from mums.
They are available in three flavours: Strawberry ‘n Oat, Blackcurrant ’n Oat and Apple ‘n Oat and contain real fruit and no artificials.
The product comprises two layers – a fruity base, topped with oats and sprinkled with strawberry, blackberry or apple pieces.
Gary Frank, founder of The Fabulous Bakin’ Boys, said: “We are really excited to be launchin’ Fruit N’ Oat slices and we are really confident the product will tempt the taste buds of mums and kids alike.
“We wanted to develop a healthy product that mums would seek out for the family’s lunch boxes, and that children would enjoy eating. It is also an ideal impulse snack for busy people on-the-go, and we will be launching an impulse purchase version of the strawberry and apple to foodservice and retail from January 2011.”
Fruit n’ Oat slices are on sale in Asda and Sainsbury’s and will be stocked in Tesco from 16 February 2011. According to the company, more listings are in the pipeline. The Fabulous Bakin’ Boys is supporting the launch with in-store product sampling in conjunction with regional newspapers across England and Wales, and is promoting product at an introductory price of £1 to drive sales. The ongoing RRP is £1.49 for a pack of five slices.
