Mel Bugler, former managing director of Fox’s Biscuits and former group business development director of 2 Sisters Food Group, has been appointed as managing director of Northumbrian Fine Foods (NFF).
The Gateshead-based multi-million pound food manufacturer employs 200+ and said it has ambitious plans to grow the sales of both its premium quality cookie and cereal bar brand and co-packing businesses and the long-term profitability of the company.
Bugler, who has invested in the business, said he is excited about taking up his new role with NFF because the team he will lead is highly skilled and ripe for fresh strategic direction and a new chapter in its progress. He’s keen to make the most of the company’s strong biscuit-making heritage which goes back almost 80 years to 1936, and continue to strengthen NFF’s gluten-free credentials to optimise the opportunities in this growing niche category.
NFF said Bugler’s CV shows he brings a broad range of skills to the business but sales and commercial business development have always been at the core of his career, from the early years with Mars and Haagen-Dazs to more recent management roles with Kerry Foods, Northern Foods, and 2 Sisters Food Group, where he reported directly to CEO Ranjit Singh Boporan.
Northumbrian Fine Foods has a purpose-built factory in Tyne & Wear which bakes biscuits, cookies and cereal bars for the firm’s own brands and under license for Traidcraft (eg Geobars). NFF also bakes luxury biscuits and cereal bars for several major retailer own brands.
NFF chairman, Bill Hazeldean, said: “The board of Northumbrian Fine Foods will give Mel, the other members of the senior management team and all our employees, as much assistance and backing as possible to help realise the terrific potential the business is capable of achieving.”
