Birmingham’s historic shopping arcade, Great Western Arcade, has welcomed two new retail tenants this month.

Today (Thursday 29 May 2014) sees the opening of a second Snow+Rock store in the city, offering designer sunglasses and accessories for outdoor and sports enthusiasts. The UK’s number one snowsports and outdoor retailer this joins Snow+Rock’s 20 stores across the UK and Ireland, and complements the existing store at The Priory Queensway. The new Great Western Arcade boutique features brands including Adidas, Oakley, bollé and Julbo.

This arrival follows premium street and skatewear store Projekt21, which opened earlier in the month. Created from a love of quality goods from both the UK and the US, Projekt21 stocks emerging and established brands including Diamond Supply Co, Acapulco Gold, Staple Clothing, Primitive Apparel, DGK, Grizzly and 5Boro to name a few. As well as retailing on trend clothing and accessories, Projekt21 aims to help young people with disabilities or social needs to achieve their goals in life; whether that be a career in the fashion industry or retail in general.

Gay Faulkner, centre manager, said: “This is a really exciting time for Great Western Arcade; we have a new focus on retail, which is resulting in a number of new tenants joining us. I’m delighted to have Snow+Rock and Projekt21 on board as they bring with them a new demographic of shopper, all of whom will benefit from our existing retail offering too.

“This is just the start of the ‘new look’ Great Western Arcade; we will be welcoming several new retailers throughout June and July, in addition to Snow+Rock and Projekt21, all helping to secure our position as the destination for a unique shopping experience in Birmingham. Our aim is to create an extensive retail offer made up of the best Birmingham brands and a selection of mulitnationals that fit within that. Great Western Arcade prides itself on being the home of award-winning fashion and jewellery boutiques, hair and beauty retailers, food and drink experts, and more. These two new retailers join the arcade’s existing fashion, beauty, gifting, food and drink retailers, including Loki Wine and The Liquor Store; which both picked up top awards at the Retail Birmingham Awards last month.

Faulkner is also shortlisted for this year’s SCEPTRE Awards, in the ‘Centre Manager of the Year (Small)’ category.
