Hammerson announces that leading trainer and sports fashion retailer, JD Sports, is to open a regional flagship at Silverburn shopping centre, Glasgow. The new upsized store is due to open in November.
Retaining the existing location and expanding into the neighbouring unit, JD Sports’ brand new store will cover 820sq m on the ground floor and 372 sq m on the first floor, nearly doubling the size of the original store. The multi-brand retailer, self-titled ‘the undisputed king of trainers’, will offer a range of trainers, sports and fashion wear from big-name brands such as Nike, Adidas, The North Face and Converse. Designed by an in-house team, the new and improved store will incorporate the latest fit out plans being rolled out across JD Sports stores.
Iain Mitchell, UK commercial director at Hammerson, commented: “It’s great to see JD Sports significantly increase its offering with this brand new flagship store, mirroring a wider trend in which internationally renowned brands are prioritising larger, experiential stores in prime venues. The brand’s desire to upsize is a result of its successful performance at Silverburn and is a reflection of the centre’s position as the region’s leading retail and leisure destination.”
Group acquisitions manager at JD Sports, Warren Thompson, added: “We are excited to nearly double the size of our store and bring the latest fit out and concept to Silverburn. The additional space will enable us to offer a wider range of products to our loyal customers and realise the full potential of this location.”
This follows recent news that luxury retailer, Flannels, has opened a 756sq m store, and luxury bath and body care specialists, Molton Brown, has opened a 107sq m store adjacent to Pandora and Swarovski.
