International and national figures have been announced as speakers for the UK’s leading conference that brings together directors, managers and executives of co-operative retailers from across the UK.
The annual event – which takes in Birmingham from 22–24 February 2013 – attracts leaders from co-operative retailers across the country, such as The Co-operative Group, Midlands Co-operative Society and Midcounties Co-operative.
Organised by trade association Co-operatives UK, the conference this year focuses on the future of retail, exploring opportunities and threats in the retail environment and the innovations that are driving change.
Keynote speakers at the conference include:
- Cecile Riverain, head of international research at retail analysts IGD, who will explore the future of grocery stores
- Ursula Lidbetter, chief executive of Lincolnshire Co-operative, will unveil new research in the return co-operatives make into the local economy
- Ben Reid, chief executive of Midcounties Co-operative, will look at a European-wide buying co-operative
- Dame Pauline Green, president of the International Co-operative Alliance, will highlight best practice from around the world
Ed Mayo, secretary general of Co-operatives UK, said: “This conference is a once a year opportunity for co-operative retailers to take the time to stand back, discuss and consider a strategy for growth. With retail going through a dramatic period, it is a rare and important opportunity.”
