Lavazza has launched its first-ever barista competition, the Lavazza UK Barista Championship 2019, to celebrate the top baristas from some of London’s finest hospitality locations. The event aims to provide a platform for baristas to showcase and elevate their talents.
The competition started in August with a ‘Heats’ stage which saw 150 candidates demonstrate their barista skills to secure a place in the semi-final. Following a semi-final competition at Lavazza’s Training & Innovation Centre in London, six finalists remain and are due to go head-to-head in a gruelling final round taking place on November 25th. The six contenders who will be battling it out for the title of Lavazza’s 2019 UK Barista Champion of the year are:
- Konstantinos Mentesidis from Firmdale Hotels
- Kumar Ghale from Côte Restaurants
- Tibor Schwarz from Côte Restaurants
- Amro Aly from PAUL
- Ersilia Barberio from PAUL
- Stuart Roe from Brunning & Price
The champion barista will win a Specialty Coffee Association accredited Intermediate Barista Skills course, worth over £500, as well as an all-expenses paid two-day trip to Lavazza’s hometown Turin. There they will visit the Lavazza HQ, Nuvola, the Factory and Innovation Centre, as well as the flagship Lavazza store in Milan.
David Cutler-Colclough, Brand Ambassador & UK Head of Training Centre at Lavazza, said: “We’ve seen some truly amazing talents come out of this competition, and while it wasn’t easy to make the selection, we’re very excited to see what our six finalists deliver in the final stage. We value the work of baristas, so this competition is a great opportunity for us to not only celebrate our dedicated customers, but also to spotlight the role baristas play as an integral part of our business and further showcase our commitment to the community.”
The Lavazza UK Barista Championship 2019 final is taking place on 25 November at Ham Yard Hotel.
