Leading retail names to participate in Reuters Retail and Consumer Summit

Leading names in consumer and retail goods will visit the Reuters bureaus in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Dubai and Tokyo from 11-14 September 2012 to discuss the outlook for the sector in a series of exclusive interviews. The stories and videos from the closed on-the-record sessions at the Reuters Retail and Consumer Summit will be posted online at www.reuters.com/summits.

Shoppers the world over are stressed and forcing retail executives to be more aggressive and conservative heading into the year-end holiday period and New Year, said Reuters. US retail executives are not reading too much into a recent uptick in consumer spending growth; while their European counterparts are dealing with shoppers afraid the region is slipping into recession, said the news agency. In the face of such prospects, the trick for retailers and consumer brands will be to figure out how to coax shoppers into stores and onto websites without shrinking profit margins through discounting, opening too many new stores or loading up on inventory that could go unsold at Christmas, Reuters said.

Reuters Retail and Consumer Summit aims to take the pulse of the industry by speaking with leaders from a wide range of retailers and consumer goods makers. During closed sessions with Reuters journalists, executives and experts will discuss these issues and more. Neiman Marcus Group CEO Karen Katz and Roberto Cavalli CEO Gianluca Brozzetti are among those ready to share their thoughts on the mood among luxury shoppers; Home Depot CFO Carol Tome can discuss how consumers feel about their homes and HSN CEO Mindy Grossman will address the growing popularity of shopping from the comfort of home.
