Pioneering social entrepreneur Lord Mawson OBE is the latest in a host of speakers to be confirmed for this year’s Heart of the Community Seminar.

Mawson, who set up the influential Bromley-by-Bow centre 25 years ago, will be sharing a lifetime of experience of the importance of local shops to communities. He will also give the audience an inside view of his latest projects.

Also speaking this year will be Philip Blond, director of think tank Respublica. The prominent political thinker, who has published books and is a regular contributor to The Guardian and The Independent, will bring his unique expertise to the event, along with an update on a new research project with ACS, which aims to discover how the Government can create a more competitive market for retailers.

Headline speakers already announced include Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles, ACS Vice-Chairman and independent retailer Jonathan James and a panel of local councilors from the three major political parties.

The Heart of the Community Seminar is taking place at the Imperial War Museum on 2 November 2010.
