bigDL, a retail marketing tool and consumer deals app, has seen enormous growth in Q4 2016. App downloads rocketed by 76% (from Q3), with app engagement also rising.The number of bigDL enabled convenience stores also saw an impressive increase with almost 1500 stores having rolled out bigDL’s mobile coupon and beacon technology in store – an increase of 76%.
bigDL enables retailers to connect with consumers via their mobile devices. Central to bigDL’s technology is its mobile application, which is integrated with mobile coupon and beacon technology. It provides consumers with a comprehensive view of the best deals on the high street and online. Participating stores showcase their best offers to local customers via the app, including exclusive bigDL coupons which can be redeemed in store.
In Q4, the number of retailer deal views increased by 49% to 462,476. Deals were shared by users almost 80,000 times, up 42% from Q3. The number of beacon alerts sent to customer mobile devices when in close proximity to a participating store, increased by 77% from Q3 to Q4. bigDL beacon alerts send deal notifications to customers within a 25 meter radius.
Average mobile coupon redemption rates also improved dramatically (up 111% from Q4), with an average redemption rate of 19% (significantly higher than average paper coupon redemption rates). Customers can find the mobile coupons on the app as well as directions to their nearest participating store. The exclusive mobile coupons can be redeemed in participating stores on bigDL’s coupon reader.
App engagement has also increased, with the average user of the app now using it 19 times per month, viewing 171 screens for 60 minutes. Daily engagement is bolstered with the in-app game The Big Deal Wheel, where users win a prize every day, including cash, epoints and prize draw entries. In Q4, the wheel was spun over 400,000 times, up 64% from Q3. The app has an average rating of 4*s on the Apple App store and Google Play and regularly seats as one of the top 5 Lifestyle apps on the App Store.

The bigDL app has recently launched two new app features, including the highly anticipated ‘Rich Reward’ scheme and the ‘Refer a Friend’ option. The Rich Reward scheme will enable users to win huge discounts off popular products such as tablets and smartwatches. The ‘refer a friend’ option will enable customers to earn 5 free spins of the Big Deal Wheel when a friend downloads the app and registers.
