Merchant Gourmet launches new Cajun-style pouch

Merchant Gourmet – the UK’s leading grains and pulses brand – has announced the latest addition to its portfolio, Spicy Cajun-Style Lentils and Red Kidney Beans (RRP £2.00) as it continues its ‘Appetite for Change’ campaign.

Making its mark as the first new product following the brands move to a fully plant-based business, the spicy pouch that packs a punch is aimed to strengthen the brand’s position within the plant-based category. The new product will be available from this month at Waitrose and Ocado.

Created for those that appreciate convenient meals made in minutes, the recipe compromises of Puy and green lentils that have been cooked together with red kidney beans in a rich tomato sauce.

Tapping into the consumer trend of making meals as quick and convenient as possible, the new Cajun-Style pouch is incredibly easy to incorporate into quick and easy lunch option whilst working from home such as an alternative topping a baked potato or for family dinners as a great topping for vegan nachos.

A source of protein and high in fibre, shoppers can expect a flavour explosion with notes of punchy jalapeno, smoked paprika and rosemary.

The pouch is positioned as the perfect plant-based option for those looking to reduce their meat consumption, whether to make meals more adventurous, bulk out dishes at a low cost or simply eat on its own.

Most of the Merchant Gourmet range of products are associated with ‘side of plate’ additions to the meal, especially next to meat that typically takes centre stage. However, the new Cajun-Style pouch helps to strengthen the brand’s centre of plate appeal and its rich saucy flavour has positioned it as the ideal meat replacement, similar to the French Tomatoey Lentils included in the brand’s portfolio of products.

As with all of Merchant Gourmet’s products, there are no preservatives or artificial colours and the new Cajun-style pouch makes no exceptions. Merchant Gourmet prides itself on using ingredients that consumers know and can understand – simple lentils and red kidney bean in a saucy Cajun flavour.
