Metro hypermarket chain, real, to optimise space with Aldata

Metro Group hypermarket chain, real, has selected Aldata’s space optimisation software to automate planogram production and optimise assortments in stores in Germany.

Real operates about 320 hypermarkets in Germany plus a further 109 in Poland, Romania, Russia, the Ukraine and Turkey. In its 2010 financial year, the company had net sales of €11.5bn. It employs 70,000 staff.

According to Aldata, the space optimisation suite will enable consistent and accurate execution of category plans and new product launches across all real stores. 

“This will help real strengthen its customer orientation in Germany, enabling every shopper to find exactly what they require and what meets their personal needs when they visit a real hypermarket,” it said.

The solution means real will be able to optimise space and category planning across stores ranging in size from 4,000sq m to 15,000sq m; as well as generate individual plans – at the shelf as well as product level – for every single store. As a result, costs can be reduced and losses can be prevented, said Aldata. 

In addition, product availability for the customer will be improved by store specific days of supply.

Antje Wuensche, responsible for goods analysis and shelf management at real, Germany, said: “Using Aldata’s space optimisation solutions we will be able to create store specific shelf and space plans.

“This will enable us to guarantee even higher inventory availability than we already have today.”
