The Midcounties Co-operative has been named as the only UK co-operative in the inaugural TOP COOP international competition shortlist, for its initiative to educate colleagues on what it means to be a co-operative.
The awards are held at the International Summit of Co-operatives in Quebec, a three-day conference where co-operative and mutual business leaders discuss the challenges they are facing. The competition will celebrate the businesses that best express their co-operative values through marketing and communication strategies.
One of seven finalists in the mobilisation and involvement category, the Society was chosen for its innovative ‘Team Midcounties Accreditation’ initiative, which educated colleagues about the Society’s co-operative values, how to demonstrate these in everyday activity and to raise awareness of the business’ performance targets.
Pete Westall, group general manager for co-operative social responsibility at The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “We are driven by an ambition to ensure that all our colleagues understand the o-operative difference and the values and principles that are at the heart of any successful co-operative business.
“We worked closely with colleagues across our trading groups to help them understood what it means to be truly co-operative and to drive our business forward. To be the only UK co-operative shortlisted is a fantastic achievement, and testament to the hard work of all 598 of our sites to become successfully accredited and take pride in being part of a leading co-operative.”
The competition winners will be announced on 7 October 2014 during the three-day summit in Quebec.
