Gupta: retail role

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has appointed an experienced head of retail to manage and modernise its retail division, including three charity shops.

With the incredible support the public has shown the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity shops, a head of retail is needed to ensure the current and future charity shops continue to deliver excellent service and stock a wide range of goods. Donations of goods and purchases help to fund dozens of life saving air ambulance missions each year, therefore expanding its high street presence, enables Midlands Air Ambulance to perform even more life saving missions in the region.

With over 20 years experience in the retail sector, the new head of retail, Anil Gupta, will advise and oversee developments at the charity’s two existing retail shops in Wellington and Newcastle Under Lyme, as well as coordinating the opening of a brand new shop in West Bromwich.

Gupta has a degree in Retail Management and has managed several retail stores across the Midlands before moving into the charity sector as an Area Manager in 2010. His experience in managing operational leadership, expanding businesses, increasing turnover and driving KPIs will be invaluable to the charities retail division.

Over the next 12 months Gupta and the team hope to expand the charity’s retail division and continue to increase the overall fundraising income. Gupta said: “We plan to modernise our current stores and aim to raise brand awareness by working with the local communities we serve. We have already started to implement more branding into our stores and over the next few months will be adding branded Midlands Air Ambulance Charity labels to all clothing and accessories sold in our shops.”

As well as modernising the look and feel of the stores, Gupta also plans to implement training schemes for all shop volunteers. “We want to provide our shop volunteers with valuable retail experience and charity exposure to build their skill levels and confidence, so that they are equipped to secure employment within and outside the charity.”

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity currently provides opportunities for 38 volunteers and will be employing two paid staff at the new West Bromwich charity shop as well as taking on over 15 volunteers.
