Mint Velvet to launch first UK standalone store in a non-high street location at Bluewater

Land Securities has announced that Mint Velvet is to launch its first UK stand-alone store in a non-high street location at Bluewater, Europe’s leading retail and leisure destination. Located on the lower Guildhall opposite Reiss, the 1,900sq ft boutique will hold the brand’s latest womenswear collections, accessories and footwear.

Joining Mint Velvet is Michael Kors, the world-renowned and award-winning designer of luxury accessories and ready-to-wear fashion. The brand is to open a 2,800sq ft boutique on the lower Guildhall as part of Land Securities’ strategy of creating a series of unique statement stores at Bluewater.

The Michael Kors store, situated adjacent to Aspinal and Hackett, will feature their complete product ranges including MICHAEL Michael Kors, as well as handbags, small leather goods, watches, jewellery, eyewear, and a selection of fragrances.

Completing the enhancements to Bluewater’s line-up of premium brands, LK Bennett is relocating on the lower Guildhall in a 1,900sq ft store next to Mint Velvet and Jigsaw are relocating to the lower Guildhall into a 1,000sq ft boutique, adjacent to L’Occitane.  All four brands will open this summer.

Russell Loveland, portfolio director at Land Securities, co-owner and asset manager of Bluewater, said: “Mint Velvet is a very strong addition to Bluewater’s premium line-up, and it is reflective of the centre’s status in the industry that it will be the location of the brand’s first non-High Street store in the country.  Michael Kors is equally significant and the two, together with the new stores for LK Bennett and Jigsaw, reaffirm Bluewater’s position as the first choice location in the South East for premium brands.”

Liz Houghton, co-founder and chief executive of Mint Velvet, added: “Opening a store at Bluewater is a key moment for the Mint Velvet brand, not least because it marks a development of our expansion strategy in the UK.  Bluewater shares all of the same attributes as our traditional locations, being a high quality destination with significant appeal to our affluent customer base, but also brings the added benefit of serving a much larger catchment area.”

These announcements follow another great year for Bluewater, with more than 20 fashion and premium brands opening in the last 12 months. These include regional debuts by Hackett, Anthropologie, Nespresso, Breitling and Tesla, as well as the upsized Next. Work to create a new 40,000 q ft statement store for H&M is also underway ahead of opening this autumn.
