Mirakl appoints Daniel Thompson to help meet demand for online marketplace platforms from UK retailers


Online marketplace provider Mirakl has appointed retail technology expert Daniel Thompson as its UK sales director, as it seeks to meet increasing demand for online marketplace platforms in the UK market.

Thompson joins Mirakl from e-commerce firm hybris, where he held the position of sales director and was responsible for growing the UK retail business and establishing hybris in South Africa,  overseeing strategic wins with Burberry, Clarks Shoes, Shoprite and Massbuild to name a few.

At Mirakl he will be responsible for growing the e-commerce firm’s business in the UK, using his 15 years’ retail experience in e-commerce, supply chain, analytics and big data.

“Mirakl is a groundbreaking and disruptive technology for e-commerce, retail and B2B organisations,” he said. “The demand for online marketplaces is increasingly rapidly, as retailers realise the benefits of being able to offer their customers a far greater range of products without the logistics and costs of holding that stock themselves. With a passion for innovation Thompson has helped many of the world’s best known retail and CPG businesses create value and gain competitive advantage from new software technologies. Other previous roles include stints at Wincor Nixdorf, Siebel and MicroStrategy, where at the latter he closed the biggest deal ever for the business intelligence provider in Europe. He has also worked for a range of different start-ups that all supplied technology to the retail industry.

Mirakl launched its UK office in 2013 and already works with a number of high street retailers. Headquartered in France, Mirakl was founded in 2011 and lists some of the world’s biggest retailer as customers, including Galeries Lafayette and Darty.

After graduating as a Bachelor of Commerce from Wellington University in New Zealand, Thompson moved to London in his early twenties and since then has been working with startups, global software and consulting businesses.
