With just over four months to go until the biggest sporting event of the year, us Brits are counting down the days until sunshine and garden parties to celebrate our incredible sport heroes! The new license between Team GB and Moonpig brought together by The Point.1888 will mean we can celebrate and share this summer’s most hotly anticipated event with our family and friends in even more ways than before.
The new collaboration between Team GB and greetings card and gifting platform Moonpig will result in multiple new product lines. Moonpig’s talented in-house design team turned Team GB’s assets into a full range of products, including greetings cards, personalised e-cards, as well as mugs and T-shirts that will sport designs focused on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, as well as birthdays. The product range is all about celebrating those special moments.
This will be Team GB’s first venture into the greetings category and these exclusive products will mean fans can show their support for their sporting heroes in a wealth of new ways. This takes the total number of market-leading licensing partners for Team GB up to 31 as it continues its programme to expand the brand into new categories and new retail channels. The intention is to drive awareness of, and support for the team in the run-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021 and generate income to reinvest into the continued success of Team GB.
Since launching over 20 years ago, Moonpig has grown to become the leading online greeting card and gifting platform in the UK. Their mission is to reinvent the gifting experience and become the gifting companion for all their customers. They are doing that by using technology to make the art of remembering, choosing and creating the most thoughtful card and gift as effortless as possible.
Olivia Wiggett, senior commercial executive at The Point.1888, said: “With the Tokyo Olympic Games being delayed by 12 months as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we made sure to put this extra time to the best possible use. We’ve been able to reach out to more potential licensees and really take extra care in immersing them in the brand to be sure the products developed and the marketing plans associated with them could reach their full potential. Moonpig was a no brainer for Team GB. They’ve done an amazing job on other sports properties and its wider licensing programmes. Their credibility and reach make them a perfect licensee.“
Commenting on the news, Paul Ellis, Head of Licensing at Team GB, said: ”I’ve been so proud of the team and our licensees for their continued dedication and hard work and am thrilled that we’ve secured such a strong relationship with Moonpig in time for the Tokyo Games.”
The new Team GB products are now available on Moonpig’s website.
The Point.1888 is known in the industry as the next generation of brand licensing thanks to its retail-first model, which means it creates new products based on the gap it sees at retail; rather than what it thinks the brand’s target demographic might like. This supports a higher chance of retailer buy-in and a better sales performance.
