The Hawarden Estate Farm Shop in North Wales has scooped a clutch of awards for its butchery department, taking six Gold and three Silver medals at the North and South Wales Awards for Excellence in Meat Production 2011.
The winning products included Cherry Orchard Pie, Treacle Bacon, Hunter’s Pie and a Pork and Chive & Apple Sausage.
The awards continue the team’s winning performance. It was named Best UK Farm Shop in the Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards at the end of 2010.
The farm shop team is also awaiting the outcome of its nomination for Best Local Produce Shop in the Chester Food and Drink Awards. It has also entered the Wales True Taste Awards 2011, where it has previously twice taken the Retailer of the Year Award.
Hawarden Estate Farm Shop opened in March 2008. Descended from the small but successful Hawarden Castle Fruit Farm, established over 20 years ago, the Hawarden Estate Farm Shop is the vision of Charles Gladstone, great great grandson of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone.
The ethos of the Farm Shop is ‘real food, sourced with passion’. As well as fruit and vegetables grown on the farm, the shop also sells produce from the estate’s tenant farmers, other local producers, and a selection of other UK suppliers all hand-picked because of the high quality of their products.
Visitors to Hawarden Estate Farm Shop can also enjoy dining in the Cook Shop Café. There are also activities for the whole family with a Nature Trail and children’s play area.
