Spar retailer Jackie Jones is playing host to the Olympic Flame in her store in Skipton, North Yorkshire, tomorrow (10 February 2012).

Olympic Torch Relay sponsors Coca Cola are staging a series of promotions in the countdown to the 2012 London Games – and one of them is at the Spar store in Sackville Street, Skipton, which Jones has run for the past seven years. The torch used in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, will be on show in the store from noon to 3pm on Friday.

It is one of eight torches from previous Olympics being used by Coca Cola to publicise the London 2012 Olympics, which kick off on 27 July 2012.

“I am really excited about it for myself and the community,” said Jones. “It’s like having the crown jewels coming to town.

“Local media will attend the event on Friday, as well as children from the nearby Parish Church School,” she said.

Coca Cola’s north region representative Neil Gatenby said: “I chose Jackie’s store because of the close working relationship I have with Jackie and her staff and hopefully this will be a unique experience for people in her local community to see this torch and have their picture taken next to it.

“The Olympic and Paralympic Games are not just about London, but an opportunity for every major customer and city across the UK. For many people their main connection with London 2012 will be via the media coverage and the Relay.”

The Olympic Flame is expected to travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK, celebrating thousands of communities and individuals as the Olympic Flame comes to a place near them.

It will then arrive at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July 2012 for the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, signifying the start of the Games.
