Based in Milton Park, Abingdon, www.hampers.com – one of the UK’s largest hampers companies, providing luxury food and drink hampers and gifts around the world – has hired 38 temporary members of staff, all from within the local and surrounding areas, in a bid to keep up with the increased demand for online gift purchases ahead of Christmas.
The temporary job roles were split across the following areas:
– Warehouse – 27 jobs
– Customer service – eight jobs
– Sales – three jobs
Patrick Gore, managing director of www.hampers.com, said: “Christmas is our busiest time of the year and we always look to take on additional staff to help keep up with the increased demand, but this year is like no other. With England and Wales experiencing new lockdowns and the high street being a place that many can’t or won’t visit, we’re seeing online sales increase like never before. We knew sales would be higher than usual this year, but we didn’t expect them to be this high – we have had to add many more temporary members to the team than we had initially anticipated needing.
“We’re always proud to be able to offer job roles to those within the local area who most need them, whether the company they used to work for is no more, they’ve been made redundant or once again find themselves on furlough. What we’re hoping for is that demand remains and we can look to turn some of these temporary job roles into something more permanent – which is what we’ve been able to do in recent years.”
