One Stop: steady, scalable growth plan

One Stop is set to open the first franchise store within a mile of its support centre, as it also celebrates signing up 75 franchise stores in the year to date.

One Stop – and its predecessor T&S Stores – has been a recognised brand in its Brownhills heartland for over 30 years. As a strong supporter of the community and a major employer in the west Midlands town, the company is well-known throughout the area. The opening of the latest One Stop franchise, however, marks its first ever store in the town.

The closest franchise to One Stop’s hub of operations in Brownhills, near Walsall, is owned by Kay and Tom Bains.  They have operated the site on Chester Road close to the town centre since 1990, including the last 15 years as a Londis store.

The move to One Stop will see the store refitted to One Stop’s modern design, including a minor extension, to provide more space for promotions. The new look store will still provide its popular range of existing services which include an ATM, PayPoint, Lottery, home news delivery, Collect Plus parcel service and a pick & drop dry cleaning facility.

The store is currently going through its transition period and will have its refit carried out in late January, kicking off a momentous year for the Bains, as they celebrate 25 years in retailing.

The switch to One Stop’s growing franchise operation comes as the group passes another milestone, with 75 independent retailers now committed to the scheme. Over 50 of these are currently trading with the group, the majority of which are fully refitted as One Stop stores; the remainder have had EPoS installed and will undergo refits in the coming months.

Andrew King, One Stop franchise director, said: “We’re delighted to have passed the 75 store mark since our launch at the end of January this year and it’ll be great to have a franchise store right on our doorstep. We’ve stayed true to our model and will continue to grow on a steady but scalable basis. Our pipeline as we head into 2015 shows that we’re an exciting proposition for good independent retailers. We’re looking forward to working with our existing franchisees to deliver a successful and profitable Christmas.”
