Online searches for Aldi wine delivery up 750% in lockdown, Google Trends reveals

While we may have had to do without many things during lockdown, new data from Google Trends shows one delivery the nation didn’t want to miss out on was our beloved wine. It has been revealed that searches for Aldi wine delivery rose by 750% in the three months from 23 March.

The supermarket, which offers online delivery on a wide range of its wines and spirits, all available to be delivered to your door with just a few simple clicks, has seen a huge spike in demand over the past few months. Aldi now sells on average 14 bottles of wine every minute online.

But what are we drinking? While elsewhere sales of Champagne suffered during the pandemic, with worldwide sales plummeting by as much as 75%, Aldi shoppers continued to enjoy a drop of the affordable high life. The supermarket’s award-winning Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut was one of the most ordered products over the three months. Other popular products included Pinot Grigio, Organic Prosecco and the Exquisite Argentinian Malbec, which has received widespread acclaim.

The top eight most popular Aldi wines to be put in online baskets were:

8.       Hardy’s Chapter and Verse Shiraz – £4.99
