Many French products available on Ozon are currently available via Russian sellers on the platform. Ozon hopes to see more French brands join its online marketplace directly.

Artem Afanasiev, vice president for legal affairs and government relations at Ozon, and Pascal Lorot, president of the International Choiseul Institute, have discussed the possibility of direct sales and registration of French sellers on the Ozon marketplace. During the International Choiseul Institute’s official visit to Russia, the two parties also spoke about potential cooperation between Ozon and French logistics operators in delivering foreign goods to Russia.

Goods produced abroad are in great demand on Ozon with sales rising ten-fold year-on-year in the first 9 months of 2020, as new sellers joined the platform and product assortment expanded. Last year, Ozon partnered with French retailer Decathlon, which joined the online marketplace via its Russian representative office.

Afanasiev commented:  “We have been working to create a comfortable environment for sellers from abroad for some time, and more than 200 companies and brands from outside of Russia are already represented on our marketplace. We will be happy to help more sellers from Europe, including from France, join Ozon.

In addition, there is scope for greater cooperation in the field of technology. Retail today has great potential for further automation, as many operations are still performed manually, posing a serious obstacle for the industry’s development. Ozon is interested in increasing the degree of automation of its business through the adoption of new technologies. We have all the necessary resources for this at hand and are ready to involve French manufacturers, whose technologies are globally renowned.”

Pascal Lorot commented: “Franco-Russian co-operation is undoubtedly very important for both sides, including in the field of trade. I am glad that Ozon customers are interested in French-made goods on the site, and that the marketplace is doing everything possible to satisfy this demand. I hope that in 2021, Ozon will attract even more attention from French partners, sellers and delivery operators – this will help to strengthen our cooperation and establish new connections.”

In 2020, sales of goods from France on Ozon jumped four-fold year-on-year. Beauty and health products were the most popular product category by the number of orders, with sales increasing five-fold compared with 2019. Moreover, beauty products accounted for almost 60% of total sales of French goods.

Russian customers are also interested in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and clothing from France. The most popular French brands on Ozon include Tefal, La Roche-Posay, L’Oreal, Decathlon, Vivienne Sabo and Clarins.

OZON is a leading e-commerce platform in Russia, featuring 9 million SKUs in over 20 categories, ranging from books and clothing to food and health products. It is quickly developing as a digital platform with its online marketplace already accounting for over 90% of total assortment. More than 18,000 companies and individuals are active sellers on Ozon.
