Paul’s Pies has announced a listing with Asda which sees two pies from the Paul’s Pies range – Steak and Guinness and Chicken and Mushroom – stocked in 20 Asda stores covering the South and South West region.
It marks the first major supermarket listing for Paul’s Pies – originally started in the kitchen of his home by founder Paul Sykes in 2011 – which has bold plans to grow sales to £1m within the next 18 months.
The 20 stores include Bristol, Woking, Swindon, Worcester, Andover, Bournemouth and Reading where the two Paul’s Pies flavours are now stocked in the chilled savoury pie category.
Sykes said; “I’m over the moon to be working with Asda – seeing the pies on the shelves is a fantastic feeling and makes all of the dedication and hard work more than worth it.”
Paul’s Pies are said to be delicious, traditional comfort food for the young at heart that fill you up and make you happy. Each Paul’s Pie is handmade using only quality ingredients and hand-crimped; the signature finish to a Paul’s Pie, the company reports.
Encouraged by his regular customers at his weekly Notting Hill Gate farmer’s market stall who had tried some of his samples, Sykes made his first batch of pies in the small kitchen of his Oxfordshire home in the Spring of 2011, making just 28 pies on the first day. By August that year, he had won two Taste of the West Awards and subsequently moved into a commercial kitchen in a 200-year-old National Trust building in Coleshill, Oxfordshire.
Paul’s Pies has since won over 15 prestigious food awards and Sykes now employs a dedicated team of pie-makers who hand make 1,000’s of pies per week. Sykes and his team expertly hand-make every pie in his dedicated pie kitchen in the beautiful National Trust village of Coleshill in Oxfordshire.
The two Paul’s Pies pie flavours selected by Asda, Steak and Guinness and Chicken and Mushroom, were recently voted No 1 and No 3 pies respectively in the UK by pie bloggers www.pierate.co.uk, who tasted and rated over 400 pies currently available nationally.
Sykes will be making an appearance on Tom Kerridge’s Best Ever Dishes on Friday November 7th 2014 on BBC 2. Tom Kerridge shows how to cook the best versions of the food everyone loves to eat in the series and in the 7 November edition of the show, he looks at pies.
Sykes said: “It was great to meet Tom and share our mutual love of pies.”
