Well, the UK’s largest independent Pharmacy chain, is pleased to announce the appointment of David Hamilton as its new commercial director.
Hamilton has a broad experience across the UK healthcare sector and has been brought in to help shape the direction for the pharmacy chain, which has recently rebranded as ‘Well’ from The Co-operative Pharmacy as part of the £200m investment programme following the acquisition by Bestway Group in 2014.
Hamilton will focus on creating a compelling customer proposition, underpinned by the healthcare and wellbeing needs of our customers. He will also bring his previous experience as a community pharmacist but also knowledge built up in secondary and intermediate healthcare with UDG plc, Bupa Home Healthcare and Medco Health Solutions to develop new commercial opportunities with a community focus. As demand for healthcare products and services from community pharmacy grows ever greater, due to increasing pressures on the NHS, Well’s enhanced proposition aims to grow current revenues from £750m to £1bb by 2019.

What is your previous experience and why did you want to join Well?
“Before joining Well I previously worked as a Healthcare Management Consultant and prior to that was the Chief Operating Officer at Medco Health Solutions. I was instantly attracted to this role as am a pharmacist who learned my trade in retail and I look forward to bringing some of my experience in other markets back to community pharmacy. Under Bestway’s ownership Well have a great opportunity to be novel in their approach as they seek to be the preferred community pharmacy across the UK.

What is the role you are taking up and what are your immediate priorities at Well?
“As commercial director I will help shape the direction for our newly branded pharmacies and focus on creating a compelling customer proposition which is underpinned by our customers’ health and wellbeing needs, as well as develop new commercial opportunities with a community focus. I am passionate about developing my team to get things done right first time so our colleagues in branch can focus on giving our customers the expert advice they need to help them make the most of their health and wellbeing.”
