River Island is opening a flagship store at intu Victoria Centre, Nottingham. The 19,700sq ft store is expected to open by Christmas and will house the retailer’s mix of stylish, yet affordable, collections, the retailer claims. It will signify a key milestone in the centre’s remodelling and refurbishment programme, developers report.
Martin Breeden, regional director of intu, said: “The arrival of a flagship River Island store at intu Victoria Centre, following on the back of Urban Outfitters, Superdry and Office over the past 12 months, is yet more confirmation of our status as the prime pitch in a top ten city. We have the UK’s second largest population of 16-24 year olds in the city, so we have every confidence it will trade well.’
intu is currently mid-way through a £40m upgrade of intu Victoria Centre, which includes new interiors, new entrances and a new two tiered catering cluster around the Grade II listed Clock Tower.
Completion of the project in summer 2015 will mark the end of the first phase of a three phased investment programme from intu. Phase 2 will be the transformation of intu Broadmarsh after which intu will return to focus on the 540,000sq ft northern extension to intu Victoria Centre which received planning consent earlier this year.
Breeden adds: “intu Broadmarsh has loads of potential and we are advancing nicely towards submission of a planning application for a project which will be complementary to intu Victoria Centre and significantly enhance the southern gateway to the city
The extension and upgrade of both centres is part of intu’s intended investment of £1.2bn over the next 10 years across its portfolio.
