Europe’s biggest single price value retailer, Poundland has selected The Victoria shopping centre in Southend as its latest location for a new store.
The large 8,400sq ft store has just opened on the ground floor of the shopping centre, in between Boots and Next, offering consumers great value everyday items.
The store is part of a large expansion plan, which is underway for the high street retailer, with ambitious targets to launch 1,000 new stores nationwide.
The 10-year lease arranged by agents Cushman Wakefield, McMullen Wilson and Sorrells brings an investment of over £1m into Southend and the Savills-managed Victoria shopping centre, creating 30 jobs for the local community with a mix of full-time, part-time and temporary positions.
As Poundland store manager, Dan Martin says: “We’re delighted to open the new store at The Victoria Shopping Centre. The initial response from local shoppers has been overwhelming and we’ve had a higher than expected turnover. We look forward to firmly cementing the store as part of Southend’s shopping DNA.”
Dennis Baldry, The Victoria shopping centre manager said: “Poundland is a great addition to the centre for Southend shoppers. The well-known and loved high street brand will help to draw in footfall offering a slightly different proposition to the other retailers within the centre. We look forward to a long and prosperous future with them.”
