Salon Services, the UK and Ireland’s largest professional hair and beauty supplier and payleven, Europe’s leading mPOS company that allows businesses to accept card payments on-the-go, have announced a partnership in the UK. The Chip & PIN solution will be available from September in over 250 retail locations and online.

With the focus of Salon Services on servicing B2B customers in the hair and beauty sector, it is perfectly placed to offer payleven’s mobile Chip and PIN terminal to its customers – increasing card acceptance in a sector that is currently underserviced, the company claims.

The UK hair and beauty sector is composed mostly of a number of small, independent businesses and mobile freelancers, for whom traditional card payment solutions have proved too bulky and expensive, limiting card acceptance, said payleven.

From mobile hairdressers taking payments at customers’ homes and freelancers renting chairs in salons to small salons and nail bars, these businesses can now benefit from an affordable and flexible payment solution with payleven, the company reports. It enables these professionals to offer a superior service to their customers by providing a quick and easy way to pay without cash, and boost their revenue by selling extra treatments and products for which their customers may not always have cash available.

“Since our launch, thousands of hair and beauty salon owners have already signed up for payleven, demonstrating a strong need for an affordable card payment solution which helps to run their business more efficiently” says Ian Marsh, managing director of payleven UK.

“For payleven, the partnership with Salon Services is the next step to fully democratise card payments in the fragmented but also highly mobile beauty industry.”

In 2013, payleven pioneered a new technology with launching its Chip & PIN card reader in Europe and Brazil. The card reader connects to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth and enables businesses to take payments in stores and on-the-go. Whether it is in-store or on the go, the payleven solution offers a secure and flexible way to accept card payments.

With a pay-as-you-go pricing model, it is tailored towards the needs of small business owners. At the same time, businesses can profit from an excellent customer service and value-added services that allow business owners to keep track of their sales but also manage multiple employee accounts, said payleven.

In addition to the initial purchase price for the Chip & PIN card reader, a transaction fee will be charged per successful transaction. The payleven pricing model offers rates starting at 2.75% and drop to as little as 1.5% depending on the amount processed by the merchant.
