The UK’s leading manufacturer of baking ingredients, Renshaw, has partnered with Fiona Cairns – the team behind the Royal Wedding cake – to create a bespoke four-tier cake to celebrate Renshaw’s involvement at this summer’s Coronation Festival.
The cake, which features a beautifully gilded recreation of the Sovereign’s Orb and intricate Renshaw marzipan and sugar paste modelling, will be displayed at the Festival, which is being held in the grounds of Buckingham Palace 11-14 July 2013.
Fiona Cairns’ team were commissioned to create the royal wedding cake for Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge in 2011 and, designed in the classic British style associated with the bakery, the Coronation Festival cake also features the flowers of the home nations – the English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodil and the Irish shamrock.
Taking three days to make with every detail completely created and piped by hand, the Coronation Cake features elements of the Coronation Coach and abstract inspiration from the crown’s Fleur de Lys across its intricate tiers.
Wanting to inspire cake decorators of all levels and experience, Renshaw chose to work with Fiona Cairns’ team because of the brand’s beautifully elegant decorative style, aspirational look-and-feel and royal association.
Renshaw marketing director, Mark Bosworth, said: “We are delighted to be working with Fiona Cairns’ team to bring the Coronation Festival cake from concept to reality. The heritage of both brands makes for a perfect partnership to create a cake fitting for the festival.
“Being a Royal Warrant grantee for our almond products is something of which the business is extremely proud and we’re honoured to be taking part in the Coronation Festival. With over 60 years’ experience supplying the Royal Household; our brand heritage is more important than ever in a significant year for the business that sees us embark on an ambitious global expansion plan.”
Fiona Cairns design director, Rachel Eardley, said: “We are delighted to have designed a bespoke cake in association with Renshaw, especially for the Coronation Festival.
There are many icons associated with the Coronation but we have chosen to create a tiered cake that reflects our style and skills as complementing the occasion.”
