With bells set to ring for the Royal Wedding this weekend, new research from VoucherCodes reveals that tills are also going to be ringing around the country, as patriotic Brits are set to splash £225m celebrating Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tying the knot this Saturday 19 May.

The research found London to be the most patriotic region, with Londoners planning to fork out a collective £106m on the big day, with food, drink and memorabilia among the items that the capital is planning to spend big on. Scotland was revealed to be the second most patriotic region, home to the Queen’s holiday home in Balmoral, with Scots set to splash £29m to mark the occasion.

Anita Naik, consumer editor at VoucherCodes, says: “Brits are feeling positive about their finances as we head into the summer, and this combined with the warmer weather means the nation is more prepared to dig deep and celebrate the upcoming Royal Wedding. Whether you’re planning a Royal Wedding themed party at home or would prefer to watch the events unfold on a big screen, there are plenty of ways to make significant cost savings on items such as food and drink; keep an eye out for discounts and voucher codes on the high street or for special Royal Wedding deals at your local pub.”
