RS McColl founder honoured in Scottish Football Hall of Fame

Robert Smyth McColl, the joint founder of RS McColl, now part of the UK’s leading neighbourhood retail group Martin McColl, has been inducted into the esteemed Scottish Football Hall of Fame. One of Scotland’s most renowned footballers and a successful businessman, he was recognised as a sporting legend at a ceremony last night.

Robert McColl founded RS McColl, the chain of newsagents, in 1901 in Glasgow with his brother. Today, the RS McColl brand is part of the Martin McColl Retail Group, which also includes McColl’s and Martin’s.

The Group has developed into a leading neighbourhood retailing group, with more than 150 stores in Scotland and a total of 1,250 storesthroughout England, Scotland and Wales. The newsagent/variety stores within the Group still trade as RS McColl in Scotland.
