Electronics specialist Maplin has revealed a dramatic rise in the sales of dashboard cameras – cameras fixed on the dashboard of vehicles to record footage whilst moving or stationary.

The retailer has seen sales of dashboard cameras rise by 510% this March, following ITV’s Car Crash Britain: Caught on Camera programme last month.

Maplin’s best-selling dashboard camera, the Nextbase 402G, has had a massive sales increase of 680% in the past month alone.

Oliver Meakin, managing director of Maplin Direct, said: “More motorists are investing in dashboard camcorders which can not only reduce motor insurance premiums, but offer extra safety and security measures to drivers. Dashboard cameras allow drivers to film bumps and accidents from their own point of view, which can then be used as evidence with the Police and insurance companies.”
