Samsung Mobile (UK) today announces its official sponsorship of British Superstock Motorcycle Racing Championship leader, Jon Kirkham. Samsung becomes Kirkham’s title sponsor for the remainder of the 2010 season and looks forward to building a long-term relationship as the up-and-coming British rider hopes to move into Superbike racing in 2011.
The agreement marks Samsung Mobile’s first foray into the world of Superstock racing, a sport popular with a large proportion of Samsung’s target audience. Kirkham joins a growing portfolio of young, talented individuals supported by Samsung Mobile as the company deepens its commitment to supporting bidding British talent, across a variety of disciplines.
As the rider tipped to take the championship this coming weekend, the relationship with Kirkham offers Samsung Mobile the opportunity to connect with his fan base through a wide range of channels. As part of the agreement, Samsung’s logo will appear on Kirkham’s bike and clothing and he will be using Samsung’s latest Smartphone the Galaxy S to update his blog with his results to his growing fan base. Samsung said it will also enjoy exposure to his growing number of fans both online through social media platforms and at the circuits.
Simon Stanford, head of mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “Teaming up with and supporting Jon is a new and exciting venture for Samsung Mobile and gives us the opportunity to connect with all aspects and interest areas of our target audience by supporting causes they feel passionately about. We wish Jon the best of luck with the last few races of the season, on the road to becoming champion.”
Commenting on the sponsorship Kirkham said: “We haven’t had a lot of money this season but we have had lots of enthusiasm and talent. I prepare meticulously for every race and with Samsung’s support and their wide range of fantastic products this new sponsorship offers a great opportunity for me.”
