Screwfix promotes Graham Smith to marketing director

Screwfix has appointed Graham Smith to the role of marketing director.

Smith: board role

Smith joined Screwfix in 2009 and previously held the role of director of retail marketing where he played an instrumental part in a number of important customer initiatives, including the consistent delivery of promotional plans across Screwfix’s stores and building brand awareness through strong advertising and sponsorship campaigns. He also led the marketing activity for the launch of hundreds of new stores in the retailer’s significant expansion programme.

In the role of marketing director, Smith will join Screwfix’s board and have overall responsibility for marketing across the business. Smith takes over the position from John Mewett, who is now group digital director at Kingfisher. Mewett will continue to oversee e-commerce for Screwfix and remains as a Screwfix board member.

The appointment of Smith comes at a time of ongoing and significant growth for the retailer as it continues to expand its store network. It opened its milestone 500th store in Enfield – Southbury on 9 February 2017. Focused on meeting the needs of busy tradespeople, Screwfix stores run alongside a number of other convenience-led services, including its industry-leading Click & Collect service, which allows products to be picked up from a store in as little as one minute after ordering, and which receives 2.6 million unique visitors per week.

Smith commented: “Screwfix’s core objective is to help our customers do their jobs quickly, affordably and right first time.  At the heart of this is our commitment to deliver high levels of convenience for our customers.  From this perspective, I’ll be focused on making sure we deliver this across all our channels as we continue to grow the business.

“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and continuing to drive customer understanding of what Screwfix offers.”

Andrew Livingston, CEO of Screwfix, said: “Graham has a deep knowledge of Screwfix and broad commercial experience from his time with the business and, prior to that, through senior commercial roles at leading UK retailers.  I’m delighted to announce an internal appointment to this role and believe Graham will continue to play a significant part in our future success.”
