Somerset’s oldest family cider maker, Sheppy’s, is launching Redstreak cider, which joins its range of traditional premium craft ciders. With UK cider sales standing at £835m in 2019 and craft varieties slowly but surely making headway in the category, the launch of Sheppy’s Redstreak comes at a time when there are still plenty of growth opportunities for craft cider.
Coinciding with the start of summer, Redstreak is a medium-sweet single variety cider with a modest ABV of 4%. Made with traditional Somerset Redstreak apples, the new cider is crisp and light with a notably refreshing fruity flavour that Sheppy’s is famed for.
Master of Cider and sixth generation craftsman David Sheppy commented: ‘The Redstreak apple variety is a personal favourite of mine, so being able to introduce our newest cider made with its wonderfully refreshing flavour is a real joy. Lower ABV innovations are more important than ever to maintain volume growth and keep drinkers interested in cider, which is why we wanted our Redstreak to sit at 4% ABV. It’s perfect for long lazy days in the sun and hopefully for enjoying at summer social occasions in the not too distant future!”
In a direct to consumer initiative, Sheppy’s is also set to release 1,000 limited-edition bottles of Redstreak from the company’s House of Cider in Taunton, with 50p from every sale being donated to local hospital, Musgrove Park. Each bottle also features a rainbow design in recognition of the incredible work of those on the frontline.
Sheppy’s Redstreak cider will be available on its web shop from 23rd May 2020 RRP: £17.41+VAT for 12 500ml bottles.
