Lacey: new role

The Southern Co-operative (TSC) has appointed industry expert Gemma Lacey as head of sustainability in a new role to focus specifically on reducing the business’ environmental footprint.

Gemma joins The Southern Co-operative (TSC) from the John Lewis Partnership, where she was head of corporate social responsibility for five years. She has a total of 15 years’ experience working in sustainability, predominantly in the retail industry. Lacey’s role at TSC will focus on developing and delivering a tailored ethical operating plan for the business in its 210 food stores and funeral homes located across the south of England.

“As a values-based organisation with a strong local and community focus, working for The Southern Co-operative appealed to me,” said Lacey.

“The role presents an exciting opportunity, not only to develop a tailored sustainability strategy for the business but to be hands on in implementing it. I look forward to bringing all aspects of the business together in relation to sustainability – retail, funeral care and floristry – building on our strengths and engaging with colleagues within TSC, our partners and our customers to make a significant impact together in the way that we operate.”
