Spar UK managing director Jerry Marwood has been appointed as a non-executive director at field marketing agency eXPD8, which lists Sainsbury’s, Filofax, Dyson and Sony as clients. Marwood takes up the role in April 2011.

Marwood, who heads up the UK’s largest family of neighbourhood stores, will help spearhead eXPD8’s push in convenience.

Mark Thurgood, co-founder eXPD8, said: “We have been very successful in growing our business in non-food categories, and Jerry’s appointment will underpin our expansion into grocery particularly within the convenience sector.”

The 2010 Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 ranked eXPD8 at number 82 in the list of the UK’s 100 fastest growing businesses, having achieved annual compound growth of 50% over three years. The company was also ranked seventh in the top 10 biggest employers.

Co-founder Pete Bailey said: “This is a great achievement particularly as retail services is a tough industry where turnover is hard won, and contracts are difficult to gain and retain.”

According to Bailey, eXPD8 is the first field marketing/retail services company to make the list since 2006 and he credited experienced and dedicated staff, the company’s retail heritage, and a focus on service excellence for making the grade.

“Growing from nothing to create circa 1,100 jobs in eight years has been a huge accomplishment. None of which would have been possible without our fantastic team,” he said.
