Spar reports its S Budget value own label range has generated £2m in sales since its nationwide launch in the UK in September 2011.
According to the retailer, the range’s 15 core lines have exceeded store targets. One particular success story is the S Budget Energy Drink, which has sold half a million singles since its launch, leading to a boost of overall energy drink sales in Spar stores.
“The demand for better value products in good local convenience stores has never been greater, and the launch of the S Budget range allows Spar to be ideally placed to maximise this opportunity,” said Susan Darbyshire, brand director at Spar UK.
“This range has now shown since its launch it can drive down the cost of local shopping from Spar stores. S Budget is having enormous success and, in the current price conscious climate, we have demonstrated we are able to offer our consumers a great range of products at a great value price point.”
Other top sellers include the grocery range are toilet tissue, kitchen rolls and refuse sacks, which are available in nearly 2,000 Spar stores.
Fresh Chicken and Mature White Cheddar have also boosted overall fresh foods sales in Spar stores, said Spar.
“Chilled and fresh foods are what customers are now demanding and with more space now being dedicated to fresh foods, sales are doing especially well,” said Darbyshire.
“Retailer feedback on the launch of S Budget has been fantastic, and customers are really buying into the range as its offering them great products at excellent prices. Plus, our Spar retailers’ overall margin is now much higher than if they were only selling branded lines.
“S Budget has been launched at just the right time, as we are meeting a very real customer need for better value products. Both our retailers and shoppers are already recognising the great quality and value of the range.
“Many Spar retailers are now buying into more products due to the success of the range, and we have received our best feedback ever from retailers about the products. The range will continue to be continuously monitored to ensure the products remain competitively priced. We are very happy sales are outperforming our initial research and the S Budget range is proving to bring down the cost of shopping in Spar,” said Darbyshire.
