Spar’s 60-strong own label wine range has further enhanced its reputation as a best-in-class offering after it received major endorsement at this year’s Drinks International Wine Design Challenge.
The Spar brand wine offering won the gold medal and overall trophy for Best Repackaged Wine Design.
Judges praised Spar’s own label wine offering – comprising the Taste, Alphabet and Regional Selection ranges as being “very well thought-through and executed”.
The labels were designed in partnership with wine branding specialists Barlow & Co.
Ed Evans, head of BWS at Spar UK, said: “This is a fantastic endorsement and is a credit to the entire wine team as well as the designers at Barlow & Co.
“We are extremely proud of our wine offering, which we created especially to target different customer missions at all price points, with great-tasting wines,” said Evans.
“These awards demonstrate yet again that Spar has created a range of wines which are relevant, credible and great value for money,” he said.
Abigail Barlow of Barlow & Co added: “The project was challenging with the diverse nature of consumers we had to consider. We are thrilled with the results and it is very rewarding to have played a key part in creating an exciting range of Spar wines.”
Christian Davis, Drinks International editor, said: “Bearing in mind these wines are for convenience stores, we were very impressed with the range – particularly the entry-level tier.”
The Drinks International Challenge Series comprise of three different competitions, including the Wine Design Challenge, which celebrate innovation and excellence within the global drinks industry.
